On 2 October 2014, the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) will once again “Chase the Dark” across the globe. This international lighting event is generously supported by UK-based LED lighting manufacturer acdc and their US division acdc | Corp.

During last year’s successful Chase the Dark event, lighting enthusiasts used light cubes to illuminate urban spaces in 18 cities around the world. This year’s event will begin in Sydney, Australia, at 7:00 P.M. AEDT on Thursday, 2 October 2014. IALD Chase the Dark will follow the setting sun across the globe, illuminating city spaces in Melbourne, Australia; Athens, Greece; Milan, Italy; Barcelona, Spain; London, UK; Manchester, UK; Atlanta, GA USA; Boston, MA USA; New York, NY USA; Philadelphia, PA USA; Toronto, ON Canada; Washington, DC USA; Chicago, IL USA; Dallas, TX USA; St Louis, MO USA; Denver, CO USA; and finally San Francisco, CA USA and Seattle, WA USA.

This year’s concept is to create a lampshade using one piece of paper and one light source in one hour. This unique activity, shared live by participants via social media, will push designers worldwide to be more creative than the previous city; the competition is on!

The membership of the IALD has grown to more than 1,000 members in the past year, with countries all over the globe getting involved. This annual global event that reminds architectural lighting designers of the worldwide community they have created. Chase the Dark allows IALD members to celebrate their cultural differences while uniting to bring quality, sustainable, functional lighting to everyone.

“acdc are supporting Chase the Dark again following the success of last year’s event, which was a huge success.   It was great to see designers around the world really letting their imaginations run wild, and creating some truly stunning images with light.  Following the event on twitter, as it moved across the world was really pretty special, and great to see social media being utilised to unite the global lighting community.  This year we are hoping for even more creativity, and hopefully with help from our offices in London, Dubai and the US, the #IALDchasedark hashtag will be glowing once again!” said Gareth Frankland, acdc’s CEO. “When the IALD asked whether we would like to collaborate again this year we said yes without hesitation. I, together with our acdc offices in Lancashire, London, Dubai, and our USA division acdc | Corp are looking forward to increased engagement this year and seeing more stunning photography from participants across the globe.”

What host city will produce your favorite project? Follow all of the action at Twitter hashtag #IALDchasedark beginning at 7:00 P.M. AEDT to find out – no matter where you are.
