First Central offers a unique combination of location, environment and high specification accommodation providing 1.25 million sq. ft. of office space set amongst 45 acres of landscaped grounds.
FC200 is a high quality office building, which forms the second phase of development at First Central, a bustling new community in the Royal Park area of West London. More than just a place to work, it offers an impressive range of amenities for employees both on and off the Park.
Cundall Light4 took on the task of replacing the existing exterior scheme of floodlights at ground level, to create a cost effective, low energy solution. The scheme needed to create an identity for the building so that it could be easily recognizable to approaching visitors whilst at the same time minimising light spill.
The façade is predominantly glazed, interrupted with a pattern of solid vertical sections. The new lighting scheme took the approach to specifically light the vertical elements whilst leaving the windows and window frames unlit. acdc’s Integrex, an incredibly powerful mains on-board linear luminaire evenly washes surfaces up to 10 metres high and was selected as its light distribution fitted perfectly with the concept; to provide the block architecture with a more vertical and taller appearance. The scale of the Integrex fitting also matched the façade aluminium panel dimensions and gave for a very neat finish.
acdc’s Plaza 20, an LED architectural surface mounted uplighter providing industry leading performance, was chosen to wash the signage on the roof. Plaza’s simplistic luminaire design makes it ideal for façade illumination, whilst its built in thermal protection provides a level of safeguard when used in external environments.
The new scheme significantly reduces the spill of light into the night sky, with no light spill into the office spaces. Andrew Bissell from Cundall Light 4 commented on the project, “We are very pleased with the end result. The client needed people to be able to see and identify the building from the main road and tube station and that is exactly what you can do.”
